DIY: Gold Dipped

          What to do with simple and unattractive chairs that you buy because its half off, or any existing furniture that is too old and dated? Give them a face lift! 

           For this project, I got a pair of dining chairs on sale from my local home depot that will be used as guest chairs for a previous office project. To give them both a bit of an edge, and to match the dainty and elegant look of the space, I did a bit of do it yourself paint dipping of the legs in gold. For inspirations for all the possible paint dipping looks and projects you could do, I always check out Pinterest. Usually, paint dipping is an easy 1-2 step wherein you dip the pieces you want in a can of paint and then let it dry, however for this project I used a different approach. Since gold paint is not usually found in large cans, I opted for spray cans instead, this process can be a bit more tedious, but it also gives me more control.

Straight out of the box. Two front legs and one backrest piece complete with the rear legs.

Basic needs. Masking tape and old paper to wrap around the areas I didn't want painted. Steel tape, square tool and a pencil to measure and mark the length of the legs to be painted. Gold spray paint.

After taking my measurements (18 cm in this case), I marked all the legs in pencil and etched thin grooves all around. Although they look very rough, these grooves give the chairs a more finished look and prevents the paint from chipping at the edge. Finally, the legs were masked and sprayed before hanging out to dry for a day.

The chair is ready for assembly after a day of drying. The set includes various bolts and washers that needs to be screwed into predetermined holes. The chairs come with a handy Allen wrench tool for easy assembly. Although this set doesn't come with instructions, the simple design makes it intuitively easy to do. 

The Final Product.
A simple update with gold paint gives this chair an upgraded and more attractive look. A successful first attempt at paint dipping, but definitely not the last. Thanks for reading!
