PROJECT: Beach Vibes in this Rustic Modern Condo

Inspired by the deep-blue hues and tropical feels of the sand and sea, a modest condo space is turned into a feel good home for two. Situated near Ortigas Center, in a very convenient median between north and south, our clients chose the perfect place to begin life as a newly married couple.
Dennis and Dimple, who both work in the marketing field
, are both very outgoing and creative people. Having a penchant for adventure, we approached the design of the unit to reflect their positive and vibrant nature. Starting with the color palette, a combination of blue and white is paired with light natural earth tones. The use of natural materials such as wood and marble is equally important to create that same feel.
A sofa in deep blue sits center in the living area against a blue backdrop, accented by a woven rug and wicker poufs. Wood slats and wood-laminated cabinet doors provide a much needed contrast to the blue sofa while plants scattered throughout the living and dining space create a resort-like feel.
Custom cabinetry with wood laminated doors surrounds the area, both on the side and front of the living space. To maximize the potential of the modest space, we had to make use of every square foot in the unit,
working around corners and designing cabinets with a seamless look in mind.
In finding ways to fit the 65-inch television, a must have for Dennis, a bit of creativity was necessary to make the large piece fit onto the relatively small wall. We designed the media cabinet to go around the corner of the wall, giving the illusion of a wider wall. This gives us the necessary width for the television set and provides the clients additional storage for their shoes just outside their bedroom. The same goes for the washing machine right in the middle of the kitchen and living space.
Not wanting to let cooking and laundry mix, we oriented the washing machine towards the living area and enclosed it in a cabinet to hide in plain sight.
Aside from finding creative solutions to challenges, we also aimed for continuity. This is so that every design element or material is reflected in each space, creating that same laid-back vibe throughout. In the mix used living and dining room for example, a custom white-marble and wood dining table by Perch, is complemented by white marble laminate on the media cabinet. The same goes for the bedroom areas where the wallpaper shows a similar motif.
The horizontal wood slats in the living area is also a recurring design element. The same material has been laid at a diagonal to give the custom-made dining area buffet cabinet a little twist. Inside the master bedroom, vertical wood slats are painted white, creating a focal point in the room.
Opposite the vertical slats accenting the media wall, the custom headboard also has a resort like aesthetic with it's white painted finish and rustic-modern design. Modern-retro wall sconces in a deep blue shade bring a pop of color over the white headboard. Echoing the same look above, faux beams and wood textured ceiling panels in white bring to mind an authentic resort feel. What room is complete without some quirky accessories and a few potted plants.
Working on this project has presented itself with a lot of challenges but the pleasure of working with our clients and our shared vision of creating their very own resort in the city truly paid off.
Just outside the bedroom, behind these marble laminate doors is more shoe storage for the clients.
A washing machine hides in plain sight. Custom cabinetry provides storage for laundry essentials while concealing the washing machine, while still having plenty of storage space for more items.

White subway tiles were added to the kitchen to enhance the look as well as make cleaning an easier task for the clients.

Wood slats in white create for a subtle yet interesting highlight on this TV wall. Open shelves with angled metal frames allow for more display options.
A spare bedroom is turned into a rustic reading area with wicker rattan poufs and this geometric rug, both from Olio Home.
