There are many ways to convert old metal drums or chemical barrels into something more useful. With the right idea, these over-sized cans can be turned into an armchair, a side table with a hidden bookshelf, or even a simple barbecue grill. Given the small size of this old drum I had, it was the perfect size for a stool that doubles as a side table with hidden storage. Starting off with the rusty top, it was replaced with a removable lid made of wood planks and finished with a clear coat of lacquer. Next was a quick clean of the drum body and a coat of lacquer as well to keep the can clean to the touch and prevent further corrosion. Lastly, a couple of right sized ball casters give this stool the mobility I need to move it and use it wherever I want. I now have a multi-functional industrial piece that sits perfectly well beside my cozy couch.

Weekends are made for getaways, either up in the mountains or maybe even at the edge of the sea. Lying under the palm trees, sand beneath your toes and the cool ocean breeze blowing through your hair. In the busy city however, life speeds up and everything can be chaotic, especially in the streets of Manila. This simple condo unit was designed with exactly those two sentiments in mind, to have a sort of getaway home for its owners in the heart of the city. Placed near a highly populated area with nearby universities and business districts, as well as a being in the crossroads between cities, the place was given an energetic burst of yellow on the walls to reflect the vibrant nature of its surroundings. The same type of energy is reflected in the rest of the unit with the tropical colors of its furnishings such as the apple green sofa bed or the red desk chair. To balance all the colors, other custom furniture and built-in modules are finished in nice wood laminates for more earth tones. Finally, a few artworks and personal touches complete the whole tropical look with touches of blue and the feel of the waves. The result, a condo unit with just the basics, but with a totally refreshing feeling in contrast to the buzz of city life.

Bright yellow walls give the room a feeling of energy while a comfy sofa bed from AVINO Fine Living lets you unwind and relax in the living space. The area is furnished with a simple and functional media console by Boxform Interior Designs, while beach themed accessories complete the look.

Bright and airy bedroom is given wart with custom furniture in wood laminates from Boxform Interior Designs. A modern red chair from AVINO Fine Living gives the room an eye catching pop of color.

The Boardroom Table is simply that, a table for that small office boardroom. The piece itself used to be an old basketball board until it was remade into this bright yellow table with the addition of iron pipe legs and nylon casters. Following the standard size of a usual basketball board, the Boardroom Table is the perfect size for a multi-functional table in its current studio/office residence. When paired with the perfect bar stools, users can use this as a spacious desk for computer work and other simple tasks, to an intimate meeting space. The addition of casters makes moving the Boardroom Table easy, allowing greater flexibility, whether used as a surface for product photography against a backdrop, a reading table by the bookshelf or simply moved out of the way for more space. From conceptualization to finishing, the Boardroom Table was a fun and challenging project that made good use of old items into a vibrant piece of furniture.

What to do with simple and unattractive chairs that you buy because its half off, or any existing furniture that is too old and dated? Give them a face lift!
For this project, I got a pair of dining chairs on sale from my local home depot that will be used as guest chairs for a previous office project. To give them both a bit of an edge, and to match the dainty and elegant look of the space, I did a bit of do it yourself paint dipping of the legs in gold. For inspirations for all the possible paint dipping looks and projects you could do, I always check out Pinterest. Usually, paint dipping is an easy 1-2 step wherein you dip the pieces you want in a can of paint and then let it dry, however for this project I used a different approach. Since gold paint is not usually found in large cans, I opted for spray cans instead, this process can be a bit more tedious, but it also gives me more control.

Straight out of the box. Two front legs and one backrest piece complete with the rear legs.

Basic needs. Masking tape and old paper to wrap around the areas I didn't want painted. Steel tape, square tool and a pencil to measure and mark the length of the legs to be painted. Gold spray paint.

After taking my measurements (18 cm in this case), I marked all the legs in pencil and etched thin grooves all around. Although they look very rough, these grooves give the chairs a more finished look and prevents the paint from chipping at the edge. Finally, the legs were masked and sprayed before hanging out to dry for a day.

The chair is ready for assembly after a day of drying. The set includes various bolts and washers that needs to be screwed into predetermined holes. The chairs come with a handy Allen wrench tool for easy assembly. Although this set doesn't come with instructions, the simple design makes it intuitively easy to do.

The Final Product.
A simple update with gold paint gives this chair an upgraded and more attractive look. A successful first attempt at paint dipping, but definitely not the last. Thanks for reading! This three bedroom condo is my first ever project, completed back in 2014. Initially planned out as a unit for lease, the design for the space needed to be both simple and flexible. The contemporary design allows the unit to cater to a wider audience, using a neutral color palette of varying shades of brown, grays and silver accents. One of the main elements of this design includes the drop ceiling that visually divides the space between the dining area and the living area, while the recessed lighting gives a sense of continuity to the hallway leading to the bedrooms. Another notable feature is the long custom built-in unit running across the wall that cleverly makes use of the empty space. This unit, which includes custom cabinets, open shelves and a work desk, uses fine-grained wood veneer finishes and stainless steel handles for a more elegant look. Similarly, the media panel uses the same wood veneer for the open shelves, mixed with a darker finish veneer for the back panel, for that same elegant finish. The unit is furnished with basic contemporary furniture that are both sleek and multi-functional, partnered with modern lighting fixtures, while all the walls are kept bare. The result is a fully designed condo unit with all the basic amenities, but still allows its dwellers the room to personalize and make this their own.
